The Horn of Africa is experiencing its worst drought in more than 40 years. Medair’s nutrition outreach teams are travelling to northern Kenya’s most remote villages to save lives from malnutrition and disease.
The needs
Kenya and the whole Horn of Africa region are facing a massive hunger crisis. Prolonged drought in northern Kenya has destroyed crops and killed livestock for the fourth year in a row, while a decreasing supply of safe drinking water is leading to the spread of waterborne diseases. Combine that with rising food prices and challenging economic conditions, and it’s clear to see why people are growing more desperate by the day.

Our difference
In 2022, we expanded our Horn of Africa hunger response into northern Kenya to save even more lives. Our nutrition outreach teams travel to the most remote villages in Kenya’s Marsabit County where hunger has reached emergency levels to screen children for malnutrition and provide families with life-saving nutrition and health care.
