Our international headquarters are located in Switzerland, where Medair was founded in 1989, with two shared service centres in Kenya and Lebanon, and six affiliate offices in France, Germany, South Korea, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Medair currently responds to humanitarian needs in 13 countries and has worked in 45 countries since 1989.

Medair targets the most urgent needs in times of crisis, including water and sanitation, nutrition, health, and shelter. We also use cash assistance, where appropriate, to enable people to use the money to meet their priority needs while keeping the local economy going. The populations we work with are often traumatised and need to be cared for, which is why we provide mental health care and psychosocial support.
Our mission is to respond to urgent humanitarian needs arising from natural disasters, epidemics and conflicts. However, for communities to become more resilient, they need to be better prepared and have the right resources to withstand future threats. That's why we train communities and hire local staff to strengthen their skills in dealing with emergencies.
For example, in areas prone to climatic disasters such as Madagascar. We have also developed an early warning system to help communities prepare for and cope better with cyclones, and have trained local staff to ensure that drinking water supply systems are not contaminated.
We are transparent about our finances and are committed to using funds as efficiently as possible. Internationally, 90.5% of the money raised is allocated directly to humanitarian aid projects and 9.5% is spent on administration and fundraising. We have received certification for the Fundamental Humanitarian Standards for Quality and Accountability (CHS), a sign of the level of excellence of our programmes. We actively and transparently adhere to our code of ethics and protection policies.
