A Precious Source of Wellbeing for our Community

I’m Violaine Zafindrenirano, 29 years old, married, and a mother living in Tuléar. For nearly three years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as the Head of the Basic Health Centre (CSB) in Antsely Be. Today, I want to share with you a transformation that has changed our daily lives and brought new hope to our community.
Since the construction of our CSB in 1999, we had never had latrines. We endured very difficult conditions, where staff, patients, and I had to relieve ourselves in the open. This lack of sanitation facilities wasn’t just uncomfortable, it was also a constant health risk. We even tried digging latrines, but the hardness of the ground, due to stones, made it impossible.
That’s when Medair’s intervention truly changed our reality. Thanks to their support, we’ve just received new latrines and showers, which will completely transform our daily lives. In fact, these new facilities are even nicer than our current CSB!

While we await the full operation of the new government building – constructed four years ago but not yet functional – we’ve been using it for housing. This includes the latrines and shower that we’ve relied on for childbirth care.
We are deeply grateful to the entire Medair team, especially the technicians and partners who made this progress possible. You’ve not only improved our working environment, but you’ve also brought much-needed comfort and wellbeing to our community.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support and dedication. You’ve truly made a difference in our lives and in the lives of those we serve.
