Role Summary 

The WASH Project Manager plans, develops, monitors and evaluates the assigned WASH project(s), that involve assessing WASH needs, designing projects, writing proposals and initiating and effectively managing and reporting on the projects in line with the objectives, timeframe and budget. Coordinate and network at a senior level with national and regional authorities, clusters and other NGOs, providing technical support, leadership and strategic direction.  

Project Overview 

WASH projects in the Great South of Madagascar, that focus on extending a big water supply system in a remote area, as well as either water point construction or rehabilitation, that include hygiene promotion and use of innovative technologies. The next phase of the water supply system project will also emphasize on long-term sustainability, including proper capacity building plan and handover to local actors.  

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an overview of the country WASH programme(s) and of the regional context, with a view to strategically developing new projects in current sites and / or in surrounding regions.
  • Manage the assigned WASH project(s) to meet the project objectives within budget and time frame, through continuous monitoring and supervision of activities, overseeing of the technical design, execution and evaluation of progress through outputs and impacts, using both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Provide strong leadership of the assigned project(s), working to ensure both short and long-term positive impacts and outcomes for the beneficiaries, local authorities (where applicable) and local WASH staff.
  • Manage the WASH project(s) to meet the project objectives within budget and allotted time frame, and report on activities in an accurate (formats) and timely manner, according to Medair and donor standards.
  • Develop new proposals linked to the CSP, in conjunction with relevant field managers, and set clear objectives and indicators for activities, in collaboration with the WASH team and where appropriate, with the local communities.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:

•  Essential qualification: higher level qualification in a technical field, preferably in water and sanitation; desirable:  BSc/ MSc in Water/ Environmental Engineering or Management or Civil Engineering or Hydrology/ Geology

•  Essential experience: 2 years post-qualification professional experience in a relevant field and Management experience of project(s) and team(s) in a WASH context.

Desirable: experience in a WASH programme in a developing country, preferably in a humanitarian context.

•  Essential language skills: fluent in French (spoken and written), good level of English (spoken and written).
•  Essential IT skills: Computer literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
Desirable: experience with Solstice, with ODK or similar software and in using GIS software.
