Role Summary
The role manages humanitarian health, nutrition and MHPSS projects in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. This includes implementation of project(s), providing technical support, managing and training health, nutrition and MHPSS staff to meet quality standards in service delivery, encouraging beneficiary participation, liaising with other stakeholders, reporting on progress. The role also includes identification of new needs, contributing to planning and development of proposals.
Project Overview
Medair provides multi-sector humanitarian support (health, nutrition, MHPSS and WASH) Kandahar Province. Projects include primary health care, nutrition and MHPSS services in remote, hard to reach or underserved areas or occasional short-term health system strengthening of existing facilities. Medair maintains capacity to respond to emergencies such as disease outbreak or displacement.

Responsibilities:
• Project Management: Manage the assigned health, nutrition and MHPSS project(s) to meet the project objectives within budget and time. Monitor and supervise health, nutrition and MHPSS activities.
• Staff Management: Line-manage the Health/ Nutrition Manager and Facility Team lead of the assigned project(s), providing coaching and technical supervision to staff. Recruit health and nutrition staff for new projects (with HR).
• Financial Management: Manage the health, nutrition and MHPSS budget for the project. Responsible for development of health, nutrition and MHPSS budget for new projects.
• Logistics Responsibilities: Ensure timely procurement of project supplies according to budget and project design, including medicines, consumable supplies, nutrition commodities and equipment for project activities.
• Communicate and coordinate with local stakeholders, particularly affected communities, local authorities and other humanitarian actors. Ensure Medair is well represented at coordination forums.
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
• Higher level qualification or University degree in relevant subject such as Health, nutrition, or public health
• Language skills: Excellent English (spoken and written)
• 3 years post-qualification professional experience in a relevant field (e.g. nursing, midwifery, medicine, community health, public health)
- Management experience implementing health or nutrition projects.
• Desirable: 2 years of experience with a humanitarian NGO or other agency engaged in health and nutrition

• Creative, open-minded, flexible, self-learner, with good understanding of cross-cultural issues
• Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels
• Able to oversee multiple tasks, prioritising and delegating as required
• Good communication skills
