Role Summary
The Country Director oversees all programme and support activities in-country. Represent Medair in all issues relating to the country programme, play a key role in donor relations and manage the country strategy and the project implementation in conjunction with senior field managers. .
Project Overview
In response to the crisis in Syria, Medair is delivering emergency assistance to Syrian refugees and host communities in Lebanon and Jordan, and to IDPs in Syria. The Lebanon programme is a key multi-sectoral programme for Medair in the region. Projects are in the sectors of Health and Protection, Shelter, WASH, and Information Management / Mapping.
Workplace & Conditions
Based in Beirut, Lebanon, with travel to project sites across the country
Responsibilities:
• Lead the design and evaluation of the country strategy, ensuring alignment with regional goals, contextual needs, and donor priorities. Anticipate new initiatives by analysing trends and political developments.
• Manage donor relations by developing partnerships, securing funding, and overseeing the preparation of high-quality proposals and reports with relevant teams.
• Oversee financial planning and budget management, monitoring cash flow and audit processes, while addressing risks of over- or under-spending.
• Guide staff management processes including recruitment, team structures, performance, and safety, fostering a healthy work environment across the programme.
• Ensure programme quality, compliance, and security standards are met, overseeing implementation, evaluation, and collaboration with regional and HQ advisors as needed.
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
• Degree in a relevant subject such as Management / Development Studies / Business Administration or a relevant technical subject, such as engineering, WASH, Public Health or Information Management.
• Excellent English (spoken and written). Arabic an asset.
• Experience in a relevant senior management position and in a complex humanitarian emergency.
• Strong financial management skills, including budget planning and oversight.
• Proven experience in donor relations, proposal development, and grant management.
