Role & Responsibilities
The Health & Nutrition Advisor works as an important member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the Health and Nutrition Advisor has a vital role to play in improving the overall health and nutrition situation of the target population. This involves providing technical advice and support to the field management and the health and nutrition staff, as well as developing, leading, monitoring and evaluating the health and nutrition aspects of the country programme. Important parts of the role include: Coordinate and network at a senior level with national and regional health authorities and other NGOs; lead on all health and nutrition elements of proposals and reports, providing capacity building for national and international staff; promote best practice in the health programmes and contribute to the overall management of the country programme.
Project Overview
Medair has been present in Sudan since February 2020, building on Medair’s previous work in the country from the 2010s. Medair currently has Health and Nutrition programming in the states of Khartoum, West Darfur, South Darfur, North Darfur and Blue Nile.
Workplace & Conditions
Medair field-based position in Khartoum or Port Sudan, Sudan, with regular trips to project locations.
Starting Date / Initial Contract Details
July 2026. Full time, two years.
Key Activity Areas
- Provide strategic and technical leadership for Medair’s health and nutrition portfolio, overseeing programme design, quality implementation, responsible exits, policy adherence, and supplychain oversight while supporting proposal development and reporting, donor engagement, and evidence based decision making.
- Deliver high quality technical support to health and nutrition teams through capacity building, coaching, staff recruitment input, and support to line managers on technical induction, appraisal, and professional development.
- Strengthen programme quality and accountability by conducting regular monitoring visits to Health and Nutrition sites in all Medair programming areas, ensuring robust data systems and analysis, ensuring global technical guidance is followed, and providing feedback and recommendations to improve project performance and beneficiary engagement.
- Lead external representation and coordination, actively participating in national-level Health and Nutrition Clusters, engaging UN agencies, NGOs, MoH, donors, and networks, facilitating field visits, and effectively communicating Medair’s priorities and programme information.
- Provide crosscutting organisational support, oversight of country staff health and occupational health procedures, technical recruitment of health/nutrition staff, budget and expense monitoring and contributing to the spiritual life of the team in alignment with Medair’s Christian values.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:
- Clinical degree (nurse or doctor), or Public Health degree.
- 3 years’ work experience in managing programmes in international public health settings with at least 1 year in a humanitarian emergency context, implementing primary health care and emergency nutrition programs inline with Sphere standards.
- Experience in the design, monitoring of implementation and evaluation of public health programmes in humanitarian contexts.
- Good report and proposal writing skills, negotiation, problem solving, communication as well as advanced planning and analytical skills.
- Good working knowledge of English (speaking and writing). Ability to speak, or learn, local language (Arabic) desired.
