SOUTH SUDAN: Nyabang's Story
"When our enemies attacked, we ran for our lives. When we returned everything was gone - our home, our animals, everything.”
In remote South Sudan, Nyabang's village was destroyed by armed conflict.
Before the fighting, her family had cattle - which provided them with food, income, security. But then their village was attacked. Their cattle were stolen, and their home was destroyed.
They ran for their lives.
Nyabang faced giving birth, displaced from home, with no resources or skilled medical care - risking the lives of herself and her baby.
Luckily, she found Medair's maternal health clinic just in time and gave birth safely with the medical care she needed:
"Giving birth at home is always risky. It took me just 30 minutes to walk here - but the next closest clinic is three hours on foot. That’s too far for a pregnant woman, if something goes wrong on the way, you may not survive.
Compared to my first birth at home, this one at the Medair clinic was much better. The care I received was excellent. I was monitored closely. I was treated well and given pain relief. And when I heard my baby cry for the first time - I was overjoyed!
I am happy and I know I can return here if anything happens to me or my baby."

There are many other women just like Nyabang - women who have lost everything and are far from home.
Your gift today could help mothers like Nyabang give birth safely.
