Role Summary

The Country Director (CD) leads a diverse team to serve the world’s most vulnerable, overseeing all in-country programme and support activities. The CD plays a key role in donor relations, grant management, external representation, and legal compliance. The CD manages the country strategy, project implementation, and evaluation with senior managers.

Project Overview

Medair’s multi-sector relief programme in South Sudan aims to save lives and alleviate human suffering by working in fixed and emergency locations. It provides essential health, nutrition, WASH, NFI/ES, and mental health services to vulnerable populations.

Workplace & Conditions

Juba, South Sudan with frequent travel to remote project locations

Responsibilities:  

• Programme Leadership/Management: Implement strategy, oversee programme and support functions and review their structures, maintain donor relations, ensure compliance, approve project budgets.

• Security Mangement: Overall responsibility for safety and security of staff/assets, oversee security plans and procedures, lead decision-making during security incidents. Chair Crisis Management Team when required.

• Staff management: Line manage staff, fostering a supportive and transparent team environment. Ensure effective HR functions, compliance, and safeguarding policies, while reflecting Medair’s vision and values

• Quality management: Develop and implement systems to enhance transparency and prevent fraud. Ensure project implementation and reporting meet donor expectations and international standards.

• Team spiritual life: Reflect Medair’s vision, contribute to and lead team spiritual life through devotions and prayers, and foster a faith-based environment.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies:  

• University degree in a relevant subject such as Management/Humanitarian & Development/BA  

• 5 years post-qualification experience in a management position  

• 3 years post-qualification experience in a complex humanitarian emergency

• Experience in dealing with donors and government officials

• Strong working knowledge of English (spoken and written)
