Role Summary

The Global Emergency Response Team (G-ERT) Health and Nutrition (H&N) Advisor is available for immediate deployment into emergency responses and start-ups to provide strategic and technical support, quality management, networking and coordination, and initial hands-on assessment and management implementing projects and training H&N staff and partners. Working closely with the G-ERT and key collaborators, to strengthen the timeliness and technical quality of our emergency H&N programming, ensuring we meet international health guidelines in our services. The G-ERT H&N Advisor may also deploy into existing country programmes to help scale up and support new emergency responses.

 

Project Overview 

The G-ERT is a team of emergency response specialist with the goal of deploying into new sudden onset emergencies within 24 hours, assessing needs within 3 days and starting to deliver live-saving assistance within 1 week. New G-ERT responses historically comprise of around 7% of annual Medair portfolio budget. In recent years, this has amounted to USD $3.5 million on average and has involved 1-3new emergency responses per year (about half become longer-term country programmes).

GSO based position in Lausanne, Switzerland. Swiss or eligible EU citizens, or those with a valid work permit for Switzerland, can apply for the role based in Switzerland. Medair alumni may be considered for remote placement(conditions apply).

Responsibilities

·                    Strategy & Technical Oversight: Provide strategic guidance, technical support, and policy development for emergency H&N. Lead G-ERT H&N strategies and update guidelines for timely, effective responses.

·                    Project & Staff Management: Design and implement emergency H&N projects, conduct needs assessments, and manage staff recruitment, training, and supervision. Ensure project objectives, reporting, and continuous improvement.

·                    External Representation &Coordination: Build networks with key stakeholders, clusters, and partners. Monitor global crises, support donor engagement, and contribute to fundraising and communications.

·                    Quality & Compliance: Ensure clear and evidence-based advice, program coherence, and strong data systems. Oversee budgets, compliance, and procurement of emergency supplies in line with standards.

·                    Capacity Building: Develop training materials, lead and contribute to workshops, and strengthen staff and partner capacity for emergency H&N responses.

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Competencies

⦁             Medical Doctor or Nurse; Master’s in Public Health (MPH) and Tropical Medicine diploma desirable.

⦁             Minimum 3 years managing complex H&N emergency responses, including assessments and project cycle management.

⦁             Strong knowledge of humanitarian standards; proven skills in staff management, proposal/report writing, and donor coordination.

⦁             Proficient in MS Office; experience with statistical health software (EPI Info, SPSS, STATA, ENA for SMART)desirable.

⦁             Excellent English; French or Arabican asset. MHPSS experience desirable.
